Shagird Review – Unpredictably good

Have you heard of Shagird before? You might have but it probably didn’t stay in your mind for long just because the current big stars are not in it. But Shagird is certainly a dark horse with thrilling story. It has lots of twist and turns, and just a blink of the eyes could cost you an important plot. It brings to light the true nature of people in power, like politicians, gangsters and police officers.

Shagird is about a police officer, who does his duties dutifully in his own unusual ways. He has good rapport with corrupt politicians and gangsters. He does anything to let his family lead a lavish life. In the meantime, he cleans up the scum in the city. However, problem crops up when an honest police officer joins his team.

Shagird is a hard-hitting film that reflects the true nature of Indians in power. It keeps you on your toes all through. ‘Unpredictability’ is the USP of the film. Director Tigmanshu Dhulia has proved that he is an efficient storyteller. He has handled the plots beautifully. Nana Patekar is a gem as always. He fits perfectly into the character. Other cast of the film Zakir Hussain, director Anurag Kashyap, Mohit Ahlawat, Rimmi Sen, Vishwajeet Pradhan, Khan Jahangir and Virendra Saxena too have done justice to their roles.

On the whole, Shagird is a well-made film with power-packed screenplay and wonderful performances. You should not miss this unconventional film!

Ragini MMS gets mixed reviews

The hype around Ragini MMS was huge. Its raunchy posters and the subsequent protests added more publicity to the film. But this Ekta Kapoor-produced film is unlikely to live up to the hype, as it has got mixed reviews from the critics. Some gave good reviews while others gave not so impressive ones.

Popular film critic Taran Adarsh is in all praise for the film and thinks that it’s a trend-setter. “Ragini MMS is a fine amalgamation of horror, paranormal activity and sex. In simple words it is a creepy, spine-chilling date movie that imparts a story which is daunting, imaginative and unconventional. It is an innovative form of sex and horror, which will impress the Gen X. Have a panicky weekend with Ragini MMS,” he wrote.

Gaurav Malani also thinks Ragini MMS has the elements to send chills down the spine. “Ragini MMS is amongst those contemporary horror films which don’t delve much into the past of the ghost, yet trying to present some chilling moments,” he wrote, adding, “While it’s not absolutely original or the scariest film ever, it’s not formulaic either, like most Indian face-horrors. Ragini MMS stays true to its genre and does induce some spooky moments.”

However, Mihir Fadnavis is not impressed by the film. “Ragini MMS is a gigantic, rubbery wad of badness — it is just another derivative, unpleasant exercise in cliches being passed off as horror,” he wrote. “Ragini MMS is never terrifying. Worse, it ends with a silly twist that’s much more likely to raise eyebrows than goosebumps. Budget limitations are no excuse for sloppy, nonsensical writing, for as busy as this movie is, you’d think it would have more going on,” he added.

Shubhra Gupta too thinks that the film has nothing unique to offer. “Ragini MMS’ is strange mix of Hollywood horror influences and old-style Bollywood ghost stories. The film forgets a basic axiom : what you cannot see is far more scary. `Ragini MMS’ borrows its voyeuristic thread, and a face too heavily from previous Ekta production Love Sex Aur Dhoka, and goes about showing us too much,” he wrote.

Well, Ragini MMS, directed by Pawan Kripalani and starring Raj Kumar Yadav and Kainaz Motivala, has received mixed reviews from the critics, but we will come to know its final verdict after a few days

Veena Malik declines to star in Saali Bitch 2

Pakistani actress Veena Malik, who shot to fame with the reality show Bigg Boss 4, has been approached by rapper Ishq Bector to star in the video of ‘Saali Bitch: 2’, the sequel to his controversial singles. However, miss Malik is not quite happy with the offer.

Told Mallik to Mid Day, “He had the guts to approach me for a sequel to that song ‘Saali Bitch’. He wanted me to ‘debut’ in his music video that he plans to come up with and is calling it Saali Bitch 2,” said Malik. I’m someone who supports women’s issue and causes, and this guy Ishq Bector just approached me to feature in his next video. He is destroying today’s youth with such messages. For me it’s a straight decline.”

Bector’s songs, time and again has raised a lot of questions related to Censor Board with its obscene lyrics and videos. On the other hand Veena is also not abandoned by controversies, so guess this will be a good pair for their next venture.

Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai keeps it simple in pretty brown dress at Cannes

It must be difficult having to come up with outfits for every single occasion ahead of the Cannes Film Festival.

So Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai can be forgiven for going for a plain outfit as she attended a photocall for the festival yesterday.

However, while Aishwarya’s dress was absent of any glamour, it flattered her lithe figure and complemented her brunette hair.

The 37-year-old actress teamed the dress with a pair of black strappy sandals as she posed on the dock.

Aishwarya, who is arguably one of the most recognisable Indian actresses, was at Cannes to announce she would be signing on for a new project – a tale of a fictional Bollywood star entitled Heroine.

Asked if the film would be at all autobiographical, Aishwarya replied: ‘That’s what the viewer will probably be searching for, but very honestly, as an actor, it’s your professional responsibility to give to your characters with absolute commitment.

It’s not just about you going out there and doing your own thing and creating your own character.

‘It’s the director who wrote it and that’s the way it gets read and that’s the way it gets eventually brought to life.’

The movie, from director Madhur Bhandarkar, is billed by the production company as an ‘entertaining, daring, emotional, shocking, glamorous, scandalous behind-the-scenes account of the reality behind the world of glitz and glamour that our stars inhabit.’

Aishwarya posed at the photocall with director Bhandarkar and producer Ronnie Screwvala.

The actress has been keeping busy during the Cannes Film Festival, and also made an appearance at the opening night ceremony and screening of Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris looking stunning in a nude asymmetric beaded gown.

A release date for Heroine has yet to be announced, but production is due to commence in June.

Salman Khan & Katrina Kaif come together for YRF’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’

So, finally we have Salman Khan working for the Yash Raj banners and that too, opposite Katrina Kaif, her ex-flame. The film is titled ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and is being directed by Kabir Khan. The movie happens to be an out and out masal film with the right mix of romance and action.

The idea for the script came from Aditya Chopra and soruces also say that it is based on a true story. Salman Khan admits that he is thrilled to be associated with Yash Raj films and his association with the banner stems from the days when his father Salim Khan worked with Yash Chopra in many of blockbusters such as the Deewar in 1975. Before this film, Salman had also been offered the lead in ‘Chak De India’ but unfortunately he could not make it because of date issues.

Also, his breakup with Katrina Kaif will pose no problem for the two working together as the big hearted hero is still all praise for her. He says, “Katrina and I get along well. She’s a lovely girl and one of my closest friends. There’s nothing better than working with someone who is part of my family.”

Must say here, Salman Khan is as great a person as an actor!!

SRK to lock lips for the first time on-screen

Ra One happens to be SRK’s dream project and the suprtstar is leaving no stones unturned to add oomph and X-factor to the film. So, for the first time he makes an exception to his policies and will be seen locking lips with his female co-star of the film, Kareena Kapoor. It’s not clear if it would be a full-on smooch or just a perfunctory peck on Bebo’s cheek. Shahrukh has so far not locked lips with any actress. Well, the same caanot be said of Kareena though.

SRK has also made it sure that Kareena presents her sexiest best for the film. She will be seen skimpily dressed in a very sexy outfit in the song ‘Shake Your Booty’. Kareena Kapoor also has another song Chhamak Challo. The song has a desi touch with dance moves choreographed by the ace dancer Ganesh Hegde.

How much the efforts raise in the entertainment quotient of the film, only time can tell!!
